Background - FULL BIO
Michelle got the acting bug in high school while participating in the stage play “The King and I” as the “Royal Dancer” and the school choir which performed at various events around the City. Both experiences proved to be a terrific journey and set for the foundation for creative expression for Michelle Stevenson as a performer.
After graduating high school Michelle relocated to Los Angeles, CA where she got her start in television by appearing as a “principal” dancer on several television music dance shows, including “Soul Train”, “American Bandstand”, “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ Eve” and “Dick Clark’s Nite Time”. After being a featured dancer on the program, which was hosted and produced by Don Cornelius, shortly thereafter Michelle was offered a guest star spot on the hit show “It’s Garry Schandling Show”, starring Garry Schandling. It was apparent that acting would be the next step for Michelle as she was a featured actress on a number of other television programs and feature films including "Prime Suspect", “Waist Deep”, “Harlem Knights”, “Commander In Chief”, among others. Most recently up and coming directors have noted Michelle's on screen presence by casting her in some great new movies which showcases her acting ability. Among them are "Tree Readers", "Never Forget" upcoming films "Saved and Rescued" and "Jody Call" as well as securing the lead role in the indie film "Bonnie and Clyde." Being a proud member of the Screen Actors Guild, (“SAG”) and the American Federation of Television Radio Arts, (“AFTRA”) Michelle continues to impress audiences with her winning smile and unique on screen personality.
Education is very important in the success of any performer. After completing her studies at Pepperdine University and earning her B.S. Degree in Business and Management, Michelle continues to hone her craft in acting at SAG conservatory by taking classes in Cold Reading, Drama, Comedy, On-Camera technique, and Theatrical and Commercial video. Michelle believes that studying “acting” should serve as the foundation for anyone who intends to become a performer.
With a strong interest in production, it was only natural for Michelle to also study and develop her skills as a writer, producer and director. Michelle got her start in production while working at Channel 3, Santa Monica, CA, the local public access station as an production assistant intern. While interning there she was able to create her first program, “Phat Tracks”, a musical dance show aimed at promoting independent artists. The show was well received and continued to be filmed for an entire year. Shortly afterwards Michelle began taking classes at UCLA Extension Content for Creation Arts Program studying pre-production and post-production for film as well as Hollywood Film Institute, (“HFI”), for Digital Filmmaking, Producing and Directing using 35 mm camera. After receiving her certificate of completion from HFI, Michelle enrolled at New York Film Academy (“NYFA”) where she completed the program for Music Video Directing, and has completed music videos for artists, Shana May Jackson, herself and others. Most recently, Michelle has attended The Director’s Workshop created by filmmaker – producer, Darin Scott ("Waist Deep", "Dead Presidents", "Dark House").
As a result of her interests in music and film production, Michelle has launched her own independent production company, MS Entertainment. While studying pro-tools music production at Audiograph International in Santa Monica, MS Entertainment launched its music division arm South Benton Records and will release independent musical projects including LPs as well as soundtracks. South Benton Films is the film division of MS Entertainment and is currently in pre-production on its first independent film.
